COURSE OVERVIEW:
The course provides officers with
information on the physiological effects, the use and
the after use of oleoresin capiscum. The purpose
of this course is to properly train participants in the
use of chemical agents for defense and control of a
resistive/combative subject.
The course will present principals,
skills and techniques of understanding and using “OC”;
control violent and aggressive behavior, reduce personal
injury to officers, subjects, and the general public;
increase an officer’s confidence in the physically
threatening situations; and reduce the exposure of civil
liability of the officer and the employer for
unnecessary or improper force used to control violent
and aggressive people.
The participants will be able to
understand the placement of a chemical agent in the Use
of Force Continuum and when it's application is
appropriate. The student will be able to identify
ingredients and their purpose in the aerosol projector.
The student will also be able to identify the active
agents in the projector, identify the intended target
area for delivery of the agent, demonstrate proper
application of the chemical agent, as well as identify
proper decontamination and first aid for chemical agent
exposure.
Aerosol placement and retention will be
discussed, as well as defense against a chemical agent.
Proper care adn maintenance of the aerosol projector,
identification of proper documentation of aerosol use in
written reports including the Use of Force will be
covered.
Students will be provided MK III OC or
Freeze+P
dispenser, either a foam or spray unit, along with a
unit holder.
^ STUDENTS WILL BE SUBJECTED TO
LIMITED EXPOSURE OF THE AGENT IN A SAFE AND CONTROLLED
MANNER.
